David B. Friend, M.D.
Chairman and CEO
David Friend oversees the worldwide operations of the firm. He previously served as a managing director of Leerink Swann, a healthcare investment bank, and as a managing director at Alvarez and Marsal, a leading turn around and restructuring firm. At A&M, he was part of the management team that turned around St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York, a multi-hospital health care system. Previously, Friend served as senior partner and board member at Watson Wyatt Worldwide, where he served as global Director for the healthcare consulting practice. He helped lead the firm, drive its successful IPO, and gain recognition of the firm on BusinessWeek’s list of Hot Growth Companies. Prior to joining Watson Wyatt in 1994, Friend served as COO of High Voltage Engineering, a specialty medical device manufacturer, and as a health care investment banker focusing on biotechnology at Robertson Stephens. Friend serves on the Board of the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine where he chairs the Clinical Affairs Committee. He is also currently on the board of Health Integrated, a leading disease management firm. Previously, Friend served on the Healthcare Alumni Board of The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. A frequent commentator and sought-after speaker, Friend has appeared in numerous forums, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, CNBC, and the Harvard Law School Forum. He is the author of the book, Healthcare.com, which examines the use of finance and technology to improve global healthcare delivery. Friend has advised clients around the world, including in Australia, Singapore, China, Korea, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Russia, Spain, the UK, and throughout North and South America. He holds a B.A. in Economics and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania, and an M.D. from The University of Connecticut School of Medicine. |
