Keynote Addresses
Strategy Management: The Next Decade
Dr. David P. Norton, Founder & Director, Palladium Group, Inc.
Introduced in the 1990s, the Balanced Scorecard has played a critical and transformative role
in strategy management and execution over the last decade. Organizations and practitioners
that have adopted the BSC methodology to align the business vertically, horizontally, and
externally have been witness to the evolution of the BSC as a strategy execution tool—through
the Strategy Focused Organization (SFO) model of best practices—to today’s Kaplan and Norton
Strategy Management System (SMS). In this Keynote presentation, Dr. Norton will walk delegates
though this evolutionary process and describe the breakthrough six stage SMS model which
helps organizations clarify their strategy, drive performance, and optimize data for better
decision making. Dr. Norton will also discuss how integration of management methods such as
Blue Ocean Strategy and Six-Sigma may play a role in this new system, the integrating platform,
holistic and integrative strategy maps, and the evolving role of technology.

Culture - The Missing Link in Performance Management
Howard Dresner, President and Founder, Dresner Advisory Services and former
Gartner Research Fellow
A performance-directed culture is one that is well aligned with the organization’s mission and
has embraced transparency, accountability, positive conflict resolution, and concerted action
upon insight. In essence, this sort of organization behaves as a single “organism”, making it
more self-aware, dynamic and able to respond more quickly to change than its peers. In this
presentation, Howard Dresner will reveal key insights that underscore how organizations can
begin to understand their own culture and its readiness to become more performance-directed.
Included will be his new Performance Culture Maturity Model, the “four forces” necessary to
achieve performance-directed culture and examples from several relevant case studies.

Leveraging Data and Results to Drive Operations
Dr. Robert S. Kaplan, Baker Foundation Professor, Harvard Business School
Dr. Kaplan will show how to link strategic objectives to operational dashboards that drive
performance in key processes and with key customers. The strategy map identifies the key
processes that must be performed exceptionally well to targeted performance with customers
and shareholders. Managers use data-driven analytics to develop the key performance indicators
for a process dashboard that drives continuous improvement in these strategic processes. Kaplan
will also illustrate the potential and the pitfalls in managing strategic customer relationships with
data-driven analytics.
