Workshop A: Selecting the Right Measures to Drive Performance
Mario Bognanno, Vice President, Palladium Group, Inc.
Performance measurement is a business discipline that has grown dramatically in importance over the past 20 years. However, as business data availability has increased and measurement information has grown in
volume, real data for decision making has lagged behind. Selecting the right measures is critical in any management system as it enables a multitude of outcomes…”What gets measured gets done”. Studies show that measurement information is still largely financially oriented and organizations have difficulty harvesting insight from their performance measurement information. As a result, some are literally ‘drowning’ in data and
are not appreciably better off than they were decades ago. This application workshop will introduce participants to best practice measurement techniques for turning data—measures and metrics—into higher business performance through illustrations, directed discussions, and interactive case exercises for a unique learning opportunity!
Key Issues
- Identifying and selecting the right measures every manager needs to know
- Using the power of measurement in strategic performance management
- Best practices in measurement development methods
- Linking strategic measures to operational (driver) measures
- Integrating discussions into strategic and operational review meetings
- How do you know whether your performance management system is working?
This Workshop is For...
Those who are just starting their measurement process endeavor & scorecard development, or are struggling with selecting the right measures & linking strategic to operational measures, and/or starting over or need a refresher in basic measures development.
Workshop B: Designing & Integrating Dashboards into Your Performance Management System
Mark Lorence, Director, Palladium Group, Inc.
This interactive workshop will discuss the difference between a “scorecard” and a “dashboard,” and show how both are important components of an integrated performance management system. We will review the different types of information that can appear on each type of tool, introduce several techniques for deriving that information, and how each can be used to solve performance management problems. Mark will explain these concepts and provide “hands-on” practice by using a fictitious company as an example, Sunmarks Coffee Company. Participants will develop a scorecard, design a dashboard, and populate that dashboard with the relevant information necessary to solve the company’s business problems. This exercise will provide you with an overview of the dashboard design process and allow you to apply the techniques within your organization.
Key Issues
- Defining the difference between “scorecard” and “dashboard”
- How each tool fits into an overall performance management system
- Selecting the right information for a scorecard or a dashboard
- Dashboard design concepts
- Using scorecards and dashboards to solve business problems
- Getting started with your own dashboard design project
This Workshop is For...
Those who have selected measures, are starting out with a complete scorecard but may be struggling with the challenge of designing a dashboard and monitoring, reporting, and analyzing the right data.
