Palladium Takes on Business for Development

Effective 12 June 2023, Palladium is taking on the projects, clients, and people of Business for Development (B4D), an Australian non-profit. Established in 2007, B4D started with a vision to motivate Australian businesses to support the UN’s Millennium Development Goals. Since then, B4D has expanded beyond advocacy to include executing feasibility studies, implementing and scaling programs, and conducting research.

Currently, B4D’s project portfolio across Australia, Papua New Guinea, and Kenya focuses on improving farmer livelihoods, resilience and financial independence, partnership ecosystems, and scaling programs.

“I’m thrilled for B4D’s projects and clients to now become part of the Palladium family,” says Palladium CEO Christopher Hirst. Much like Palladium, B4D believes in the power of inclusive growth and the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable development outcomes. In coming together, there is now a greater opportunity to diversify work in new sectors, reach more clients, and leverage a wider breadth of knowledge, skills, and expertise.

“This is an exciting time in our history – a time for us to take partnering to the next level, to meet the growing needs of our clients and communities,” says B4D CEO, Karen James. “After personally meeting with over 40 organisations and carefully understanding their purpose, capabilities, and ability to scale, I’m thrilled to accept Palladium’s invitation – we couldn’t be more aligned.”

With programs that span supporting smallholder farmers in Kenya to addressing food security and enterprise opportunities in Papua New Guinea, B4D’s work and clients will join the Palladium team dedicated to unlocking and scaling innovative nature-based solutions globally. “We’re committed to continuing and scaling up B4D’s current project work, helping to reach more communities and create more impact than ever before,” adds Bernadette Howlett, Palladium Managing Director.

“The team shares many of the same values and aspiration for impact, and I look forward to helping them fulfil their potential here and bring their expertise to other projects.” In addition, she notes that B4D’s research work can help expand Palladium’s insights and understanding of inclusive growth across all communities and within different settings. “Their experience and capabilities around sustainable supply chains, economic growth, and agriculture will be key in feeding into bigger opportunities and projects here.”
