Leading Change with the Strategy Execution System
Traditionally, leadership and strategy execution have been studied as two separate, yet parallel, disciplines. Generally, leadership scholarship identifies principles, but not a means of integrating them into an overarching management approach — of putting them into action. Here, Robert Kaplan bridges the two literatures to see how they reinforce each other. Drawing on the work of the preeminent leadership scholar John Kotter, Kaplan demonstrates how the six stages of the Kaplan-Norton strategy execution system can help operationalise Kotter’s eight principles of change management — and thus help embed both disciplines more firmly into the organisational culture.
